Zero Waste Stocking Stuffer Ideas
Anyone else getting a head start on holiday shopping this year? I really don’t want to be frantically hunting for gifts for my family come December!! Although this year I plan to give mostly experience gifts to my friends and family, we have a pretty strong tradition of gifting and receiving stockings full of goodies every year. Maybe your family fills stockings for Christmas as well or maybe you’re just hunting for some smaller zero waste gift ideas. Either way, I’ve whipped up a list of zero waste stocking stuffer ideas to help you out this holiday season. We can enjoy the holiday season while also keeping things zero waste and eco-friendly! Also, be sure to check out my post on zero waste gift giving if you’re in need of some more eco-conscious gifting inspiration.
I love gifting lotion bars! They can fit in your palm, so the perfect fit for a stocking, and they smell AMAZING. I like that they’re a fun zero waste stocking stuffer but not a pushy zero waste gift if you know what I mean 😉 They come in reusable tins that can be used for all sorts of things around the house. The tins are really great for storing jewelry when traveling or you could fill them with paper clips or push pins in your home office.
You can’t really go wrong with a handmade soap bar, right?? Visit your local farmers market and you should be able to find a vendor that sells handmade soaps that are locally made. If you can’t find what you need in your town, there’s also a great selection of soap bars in the Tiny Yellow Bungalow shop that are organic, vegan, and palm oil free! I like the idea of pairing a nice soap bar with a soap pouch as a zero waste stocking stuffer. A soap pouch is great for exfoliating skin and storing slippery soap bars. You could even pair a soap bar with a pretty soap dish. This might be a little bit trickier if the soap dish is made of a fragile material. In this case, just stick to the soap bar and pouch for stockings!!
I remember when I was little my mom would put Lip Smackers lip balm in my stocking! Even today, I always have a tube of lip balm (this one in particular actually) in my bag. I like this lip balm, because it comes in a biodegradable paper tube that you can just throw straight in to your home compost after use. You could even refill the tube with a DIY lip balm recipe of your own after it’s empty! I found this DIY lip balm recipe on Pinterest and it includes lavender. Sounds luxurious!
Ok, I understand this idea might not be for everyone, but it’d be a great zero waste stocking stuffer for someone just beginning their eco-living journey. I go without a straw most of the time, but I really like to have a reusable straw when we make smoothies at home. Stainless steel isn’t the only option when it comes to reusable straws. Check out my list of 8 alternatives to plastic straws on the blog!
These bamboo utensils are perfect, I mean oh so per-per-perfect! They’re great to throw in your bag for zero waste living on the go. They’re a good option for any zero waste lunch kit. I like to take them on picnics, hikes, or just to visit a local food truck. These are an excellent zero waste stocking stuffer for so many reasons and I am certain any friend would absolutely adore this little set!
Am I the only person who often gets personal hygiene products in their Christmas stocking? Ok, good, I didn’t think so! Over the years, I’ve had toothbrushes, shaving cream, lotion, etc. in my stocking. Why not give one of your family members their first ever bamboo toothbrush?! Switching to a bamboo toothbrush was one of the first zero waste switches I ever made. It’s a simple swap and a toothbrush is the perfect size for stocking stuffing.

Another one of those gifts that my mom always filled our stockings with over the years, warm socks! I spotted these really cute organic cotton socks on Amazon but I’m pretty sure you won’t have a problem finding warm cozy socks in your hometown. Socks are great zero waste stocking stuffers because not only are they cute but are actually really practical. I’m a huge fan of practical gift giving 🙂
I know I know, y’all are thinking Jessie seriously?? A yeti cup as a stocking stuffer? But hear me out! My mom gifted me a yeti tumbler a couple of years ago and I’m totally in love with it. It’s the perfect zero waste gift, because it will keep heaps of disposable coffee cups out of the landfill. This is a great present for any of your coffee loving friends. I know it’s a bit bulky and might not fit in their stocking but how about as a Secret Santa gift? I just wanted to share this one, because I love mine so very much and again I’m a sucker for practical gifts.
My friend Kathryn has a great list of zero waste stocking stuffers on her blog as well if you didn’t find what you were looking for here!
